Here’s a very nice remembrance of Peter Sieruta at School Library Journal by Jonathan Hunt. Peter was a frequent contributor to mekerr.com and is greatly missed. He passed away about 8 months ago from complications following a fall. A librarian, author and aficionado of all things related to children’s an YA literature, he made his mark on the world.

Now at Christmas I miss the annual box from Peter, each gift wrapped in different paper..A jar of brandied peaches, a copy of Elizabeth Jolley’s Miss Peabody’s Inheritance, a disc of World of Light, portrait of May Sarton, red and white cotton socks marked Ho! Ho! Ho!, Encores from Encores, Highlights from City Center’s Great American Musicals, a peppermint stick, picture of the giant tubeworm that lives for 250 years below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, a can of Glory Southern Blackeyed Peas, a dozen Pages of Time, nostalgic news reports of the 50’s, JuliAnne Moore’s film The Prize Winner about Evelyn Ryan, a devoted housewife who wins thousands of dollars in jingle contests to keep her family together , on an on- you never knew what Peter would think to send…I cannot believe he’s gone. I never will. M.E. Kerr.
